ClimbX 2013 has come to an end!

We have come to the end of yet another ClimbX! We would like to thank everyone for your support and participation in this event and we hope everyone enjoyed themselves over the past 2 days 

We would also like to give a big thank you to our dedicated route setting team, as well as our sponsors Kinetics,Fruit of the Earth, Block-Up, Mamee, and The Yogurt Place!

Once again thank you everyone for making ClimbX 2013 possible! We hope to see you all again next year!

Updated Qualifers Format

Hey Climbers!

Please take note that the Qualifiers will be held in On-sight format instead of Flash. It will still be on top rope. Upon registering, competitors will have to remain in the Isolation area (school canteen) and a warm up bouldering area will be available.

There will be gap of two climbers before attempting your second route. Please check the rules and regulations again!

Climb X 2013 - Format, Rules and Regulations

Hi everyone please take note of the following competition details, including the rules and regulations!
The organizers reserve the right to amend the rules and regulations without prior notice. Competitors will be briefed about the rules of the competition on the actual day itself


COMPETITION FORMAT

Qualifiers


  • Competitors will be required to report to the isolation area.
  • Qualifiers will consist of 2 top rope routes in On-sight format.
  • Competitors will attempt route A first.
  • After resting for a gap of 2 climbers, you may begin attempting route B.
  • There will be an observation conducted before the qualifiers begin.
  • Competitors will be judged by the highest handhold reached.
  • The top 8-10 climbers from each category will then proceed to the finals.


Finals


  • Finals will consist of 1 lead climbing route in On-sight format.
  • Finalists will be required to report to the isolation area.
  • Competitors will be judged by the highest handhold reached.
  • Prizes would be awarded to the Top 3 climbers of each category.


CATEGORIES


1. Inter-JC (Women / Men)
2. Varsity (Women / Men)

  • Each participating school/institution is ONLY allowed to send 5 competitors per category per gender.
  • JC category qualifiers and finals will be held on 25th May.
  • Varsity category qualifiers and finals will be held on the 26th May.



ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Inter-JC Category

  • Only climbers who are currently studying in local Junior Colleges can take part in this category, regardless of age.
  • National Climbers studying in local JCs CAN join this category
  • Climbers in local JCs currently eligible for Open Category in bouldering competitions CAN join this category         


Inter-Varsity Category


  • Climbers studying in local Polytechnics, ITEs or Universities can take part in this category, regardless of age.
  • Climbers studying in Junior Colleges are NOT ALLOWED to take part in this category.


RULES AND REGULATIONS


The organizers reserve the right to amend the rules and regulations without prior notice.
Schedules of categories are subject to change. Participants are to check their emails for the latest schedule.

These rules apply to both qualifiers (flash/top-rope) and finals (onsight/lead) unless otherwise specified.

Competitors will be briefed about the rules of the competition on the actual day itself.


WET WEATHER


  •  In the case of wet weather, climbing will be postponed indefinitely.
  • The organisers may decide to cancel the finals.
  •  If the finals are cancelled, the results of the qualification round shall be used as the finals results.


SCORING/JUDGING


  • Participants will be judged by their legitimate hold-touch point; height reached by dynamic means is allowed.
  • Should there be a tie in the top 3 positions in the finals, the qualifiers results will be used to break the tie. Should there still be a tie in the qualifiers results, a super final will be held to determine the winner.



CLIMBING (TIMING)


Qualifiers

1 minute switch-over time


  • 1 minute is given for the previous climber to exit and the next climber to enter. The next climber must be positioned with his/her back facing the wall.
4 minute climb time

  • Climbing time must begin at the end of the 1 minute switch-over time.
  • The permitted climb time (including observation) will be 4 minutes.

Finals

1 minute switch-over time

  • 1 minute is given for the previous climber to exit and the next climber to enter. The next climber must be positioned with his/her back facing the wall.

4 minute climb time

  • Climbing time begins at the end of the 1 minute switch-over time. The climber may choose to observe the wall before starting his or her climb.
  • The permitted climb time (including observation) will be 4 minutes.


TERMINATION OF CLIMB


A participant’s attempt will be terminated by the route-judge should he/she:

  • fall;
  • exceed the permitted climb time;
  • use part of the wall (e.g. side edges) for climbing;
  • use artificial aid;
  • return to the ground;
  • fail to clip-on the runners in the correct order (lead climbing event); or
  • fail to clip-on after the trailing leg crosses over the runner (lead climbing event);


TECHNICAL ISSUES
A technical incident is defined as any occurrence that results in a disadvantage or unfair advantage to a competitor which is not the result of his action on the part of the competitor, including:

  • A broken or loose hold
  • An improperly positioned quickdraw/karabiner
  • A tight rope

If a competitor is in a non-legitimate position due to a possible Technical Incident:

  • The competitor's attempt is terminated
  • the Chief Judge shall take an immediate decision on whether to declare a Technical Incident and permit the competitor a further attempt on the route.

If the competitor is still in a legitimate position:

  • The competitor’s attempt is not yet terminated
  • The competitor may choose to continue or cease climbing
  • If the competitor chooses to continue climbing, no Technical Incident may be claimed later and no appeal in relation to that Technical Incident will be allowed.

DISQUALIFICATION
A participant will be disqualified if he/she:
  • is late for the reporting;
  • fails to return to the isolation zone after observing the route;
  • unropes while climbing;
  • uses unapproved modification of equipment; or
  • fails to wear the competition attire provided by the Organisers.


APPEAL
  • All appeals have to be made in writing by Teacher-in-charge/Team Manager/Team Coach within 20 minutes (Qualifers) / 10 minutes (Finals) after the posting of results.
  •  Appeals will be handled by an appeal panel. A charge of $50 (cash) will be levied for each appeal.

GEAR AND EQUIPMENT

  • All competitors are required to wear the shirt provided in the registration package.
  • All competitors are required to bring their own harness, as well as their climbing shoes and chalk bag.
  • Individual harness would be approved by the Organizing Committee before the climb.
  • Climber’s tie-in knots will be checked by technical officials. Only re-threaded Figure of Eight knot is allowed for tie-in.

Inter-JC Registration Quota Expanded

The maximum quota per college for the inter-jc category has been increased to 8 boys and 8 girls.

Colleges that registered during the early bird period may enter extra climbers at the early bird rate!

Presently, no changes have been made to the quota for the inter-varsity category.

Extension of Early Bird Registration

NOTICE:
EARLY BIRD REGISTRATION HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO SUNDAY, 12 MAY, 2359. 

This is due to delays in the sending out of official invitations to the colleges and institutions. We apologize for the inconvenience caused!
