Competitors will be briefed about the rules of the competition on the actual day itself. Schedules of categories are subject to change. Participants are to check their emails for the latest schedule.
Wet Weather
- In the case of wet weather, the organisers may decide to cancel the finals.
- If the finals are cancelled, the results of the qualification round shall be used as the finals results.
Judging
- Participants will be judged by their legitimate hold-touch point; height reached by dynamic means is allowed.
- Should there be a tie in the top 3 positions in the finals, the qualifiers results will be used to break the tie.
- Should there still be a tie after the qualifiers results are used, a super final will be held to determine the winner.
Timing
- Timing will begin when both legs clear the ground. The maximum time allowed to scale the wall will be decided by the route setting team and made known to participants before the competition starts.
Termination of Climb
A participant’s attempt will be terminated by the route-judge should he/she:
- falls;
- exceeds the permitted climb time;
- uses part of the wall (e.g. side edges) for climbing;
- uses artificial aid;
- returns to the ground;
- fails to clip-on the runners in the correct order (lead climbing event); or
- fails to clip-on after the trailing leg crosses over the runner (lead climbing event);
Disqualification
A participant will be disqualified if he/she:
- is late for the reporting;
- fails to return to the isolation zone after observing the route;
- unropes while climbing;
- uses unapproved modification of equipment; or
- fails to wear the competition attire provided by the Organisers.
Appeal
- All appeals have to be made in writing by Teacher-in-charge/Team Manager/Team Coach within 20 minutes / Finals – 10 minutes after the results and will be handled by an appeal panel. A charge of $50 (cash) will be levied for each appeal.
Gear and Equipment
- All competitors are required to bring their own harness, as well as their climbing shoes and chalk bag.
- Individual harness would be approved by the Organizing Committee before the climb.
- Climber’s tie-in knots will be checked by the technical officials. Only re-threaded Figure of eight knot is allowed for tie-in.
Competition Format
Qualifiers
- Qualifiers will consist of 2 top rope routes in flash format.
- Competitors will be randomly placed into 2 groups. Group A will attempt Route 1 & Group B will attempt Route 2. After which, the 2 groups will switch over to attempt the other route.
- There will be demonstration climbs conducted before the qualifiers begin.
- Competitors will be judged by the highest handhold reached.
- The top 8 to 10 climbers from each category will then proceed to the finals.
Finals
- Finals will consist of 1 lead climbing route in On-sight format.
- Finalists will be required to stay in the isolation area.
